Once every two or three months or so students earn a ‘free choice day’ though good behavior. I use this time to build relationships with individual students by drawing them and talking with them to learn more about them. It’s wonderful! I have 500 students every week so this relationship building time is truly a blessing and very essential. Plus they get to keep the drawing so of course they love that too!

Love it! What a great idea to do with the free time on a free choice day! Anything like that you can do to build relationships is awesome! I will be starting my first year as an elementary art teacher in Stoughton and am looking for good ideas. I am enjoying your website!! I like the picture of you in 2nd grade in front of the Clay Stomp! I live in Fort and have seen this installation many, many times. What a fun experience!!
Keep up the good work in your classroom and at the capitol!

I’ve only lived here 7 or 8 years, but my husband is from Fort, his name is Landon. You might know him.
